    Introduction to Remote Sensing

    Course Summary

This course introduces participants to the foundational principles and applications of Remote Sensing—the science of acquiring information about the Earth's surface without direct contact. It covers the physics behind satellite imagery, types of sensors and platforms, and practical techniques for interpreting remote sensing data. Participants will explore how satellite images are used in environmental monitoring, land use planning, agriculture, water resource management, and more. The course combines theory with hands-on sessions using open-access data and tools to equip learners with practical skills for real-world analysis.

    Key Learning Outcomes

    • Understand the basic concepts of remote sensing and electromagnetic spectrum
    • Differentiate between types of sensors (optical, thermal, radar) and satellite platforms
    • Explore spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolution
    • Learn techniques for visual interpretation and image enhancement
    • Access and use open-source remote sensing datasets (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel)
    • Identify practical applications in natural resource and environmental management
