Fundamentals of Geochemical Modeling with PHREEQC

    Course Summary

This course introduces geochemical modeling for natural waters using PHREEQC, a widely used tool for simulating chemical interactions in groundwater and surface water systems. Participants will learn how to model mineral solubility, speciation, redox reactions, and sorption processes in aquatic environments. The course also covers pH-dependent equilibria, reaction path modeling, and hydrochemical data interpretation.

    Key Learning Outcomes

    • Understand the fundamentals of geochemical modeling for natural waters.
    • Use PHREEQC to analyze and predict chemical reactions in groundwater and surface water.
    • Model ion exchange, complexation, and precipitation-dissolution reactions.
    • Apply hydrogeochemical modeling to real-world environmental studies.
